Milan Fashion Week came to an end on Monday with Giorgio Armani’s Spring 2016 show. Before the show, NM Fashion Director Ken Downing got a chance to take a peek backstage, accompanied by Armani Beauty’s national makeup artist, Tim Quinn. The beauty look was quintessentially Armani—glowing skin, strong, gray smoky eyes and red mascara for contrast. Here’s what Ken found out.
Early in the design process, Mr. Armani shares a fabric swatch from the collection with the beauty team, who uses it to develop a color story and lab samples.
Interestingly, the swatch also inspires the packaging.
Often, the team takes their lab samples and creates the shadows in mixing bowls on set.
Makeup artist Linda Cantello—who has Tom Ford for Gucci runway beauty looks on her resume—creates the look: smoky eye, strong brow, flame-colored mascara, and nude lip.
After the look is created, the team does a beauty test the day before the show with a model under the runway lights. If Mr. Armani approves, they are good to go for the big day!
